John Swan Trophy 2021
This was the first face to face event held by Norwich Dons since the Covid crisis started and in addition was the first at our new venue at County Arts Bowls Club.
It was therefore pleasing that we had an entry consisting of 14 members and 2 guests. One of these was John Mason, the secretary of County Arts and the other Madhu De, a student from India currently staying with Keith Bradley.
It was planned to play 7 rounds of 10 minutes each but this was reduced by one round as general fatigue seemed to be setting in.
As usual there was the usual mix of brilliant and “blunderful” play with the result decided in a very tight last round with Dave Hall beating Geoff Moore from a doomed position. Well done to Dave for only dropping half a point in 6 rounds. Also congratulations to Brian Jeffery who was unbeaten on the night with two draws (Dave Hall and Alex New). Everyone else had at least two wins apart from our valiant guest John Mason.
The final scores were :
5.5 Dave Hall
5.0 Brian Jeffery
4.5 Alex New
3.5 Jeff Dawson, Geoff Moore, Stephen Livermore
3.0 Jim McAvoy, Biran Shah, Andy Pandian, Colin Payne
2.5 Phil Bonafont
2.0 Madhu De, Keith Bradley, Graham Jones, Stephen Crane
0.0 John Mason
Thanks to all who attended for your patience and good humour, making this a successful first event at County Arts.
